Sodium Chloride (Salt) is an alkaline compound with a transparent, cubic-crystalline structure. Indicated with the formula (NaCl), Sodium Chloride is one of the staple and vital nutritional (mineral) sources for all life forms.

Sodium Chloride is mainly produced from natural resources such as Sea Water, Salty Lake Water, Underground Rock Salt Deposits and Salty Subterranean Water. It is also generated as a by-product in various industrial plants.

After the privatization salt production with the amendment made in the Salt Monopoly Law in 2002, SODAŞ made the required legal applications and obtained the relevant salt production permits. This was followed by the investments made in the construction of raw salt production pools between 2003 and 2004, and the crude salt production was launched for the first time in 2005. Since 2005 to date, salt production has continued without interruption.

Crude Sodium Chloride, produced through lake water mining method in Gemiş and Sarıkavak Open Field Operations, is generated from Acıgöl water as a secondary mineral.

Today, crude salt production activities are regularly carried out within our mine fields located at our Open Field Operations, in a total area of 2.3 million m² allocated to evaporation and production pools of varying sizes. The annual crude salt production capacity of our company is between 70,000 and 75,000 tons.  

Usage Areas of Sodium Chloride

Sodium Chloride is used in Food, Textile, Leather, Detergent, Animal Feed, and Health sectors as well as against icing on highways in winter. In these sectors, Sodium Chloride is used in its crude form, as well as in other forms such as Washed, Dried, Refined, Tablet, and Liquid.

Crude Sodium Chloride produced in our Open Field Operations is sold in crude (unprocessed) form, on truck basis and in bulk to intermediate producers appealing to end users.
